Research FocusI am interested in how people's personal interaction with the health system affects their beliefs and decisions. I believe that the most effective way to understand health practices is to contextualize a person's decisions within the material and ideological constraints they operate. I am interested in innovative qualitative and quantitative methodologies that help us better understand how people navigate the systems and structures they operate in, how they interact with these systems, and how these systems integrate their needs into health policies. Experience & ExpertiseI have conducted qualitative and experimental research exploring how experiences and perceptions of institutions, health crises (e.g., the opioid epidemic), and COVID policy in High, Middle, and Low Income Countries. This has focused on the complex mechanisms structural factors and personal experiences intersect to influence health practices and beliefs. This work has provided insights into how we can better address vaccine uptake, health literacy, and intuitional trust among patients traditionally excluded from intervention strategies. I am currently exploring the mechanisms through which the health sciences can utilize novel metrics and innovative methodology to better reflect the needs of excluded populations in the health system. |
